On March 29, the Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched an initiative to try to stop nursing home residents from receiving unnecessary antipsychotic drugs. These drugs, which dampen the executive functioning of the brain (Peter Breggin, MD calls it a "chemical lobotomy"), are often used for control and management of those whom others find disturbing.
