Couples Therapy
Not getting along with one's partner can be one of the most painful of life's challenges! Intense feelings, being easily triggered, or shutting down emotionally are all common patterns in relationships. Being in an intimate relationship can bring up past unresolved wounds from our earliest relationships, because the attachment to our partner sparks in us the emotional learnings from our earliest attachment relationships--those with our parents or primary caretakers.
I use elements of coherence therapy and experiential couples therapy in my work. Typically I will work with both of you together in the majority of our meetings, but there may be times I feel it would be beneficial to work with each person individual for several sessions, especially if you are not also in individual therapy with another therapist. I also sometimes teach communication techniques, such as nonviolent communication, to help couples find a new way of talking with each other with authenticity and empathy.
